WTA Executive Meeting
The WTA Executive met on 25 August at Mid Wales Tourism’s offices in Machynlleth. Hannah James from VW’s marketing team attended to discuss options for 2011. The Exec will meet again on 14 October.
FHL Consultation Meeting
The WTA and WASCO held a joint meeting to discuss the proposals and proposed changes to the special tax rules for furnished holiday lettings at on 2 September at Tourism Partnership Mid Wales offices, Y Plas, Machynlleth.
We will now liaise with colleagues in England and Scotland prior to finalising a response to the Westminster Government. The consultation runs until 22 October and your comments will be appreciated; see the Industry News section of this Newsletter for the details.
A Day at the Races with Carmarthenshire Tourism - 12 September
Enjoy a day of fancy flowers and photo finishes at the National Botanic Garden of Wales and Ffos Las Racecourse! A perfect way to spend an informal and fun day with family, friends and fellow CTA members at the end of the summer holiday season. BH&HPA to meet with Minister - 13 September
The British Holiday and Home Parks Association is hosting a visit from Alun Ffred Jones, the Welsh Assembly Government Tourism Minister, to two parks on Anglesey on 13 September 2010. After touring the parks, the Minister has been invited to address a seminar at Plas Coch Holiday Home Park, Llanfairpwllgwyn.
Tourism Advisory Panel Meeting - 16 September
The Panel will be meeting at the Celtic Manor Lodge Clubhouse and members will have a tour of the Ryder Cup course prior to the start of the meeting. The main item on the agenda will be an update and a discussion on financial support to the tourism industry following the Welsh Assembly Government’s recent decision to close the Single Investment Fund (SIF) and to move away from a ‘grant culture’.
In future financial assistance for tourism will revert to being administered by Visit Wales under what will be known as the Tourism Investment Support Scheme.
Green Accreditation Schemes for Tourism Businesses - 21 September
Snowdonia-Active are running a series of free workshops for the owners and managers of tourism businesses addressing different aspects of running a sustainable tourism business; come and hear how to cut your carbon emissions and save money!
On Tuesday 21 September (10.30 to lunch) at the Royal Hotel, Llandudno, come and hear what the two main green accreditation schemes, Green Dragon and the Green Tourism Business Scheme have to offer your business. There will be presentations from representatives of the schemes, and plenty of opportunity to ask questions and discuss the benefits of green accreditation with other similar businesses.
There will also be two other workshops - ‘Retrofit of Renewable Energy Technologies for Tourism Businesses’ on Tuesday 19 October at Afon Gwyn Country House, Betws y Coed and ‘How to be a Sustainable Holiday Park’ on Wednesday 10 November at Gimblet Rock Holiday Park, Pwllheli.

WTA General Members Meeting - 22 September
Plas Dolguog will be the venue for the next WTA General Members meeting on 22 September. At 10.30, prior to start of the meeting, the 8th Annual General Meeting of Wales Tourism Alliance Ltd will be held.
Social Networking for Small Businesses in Powys - 23 September
Sponsored by Tourism Partnership Mid Wales, businesses are being offered help to tap into Facebook and Twitter to interact with more and more customers – with a free seminar during Powys' first ever business week. Eddy Webb of InSynch Business Services Ltd is offering a free seminar focussing on social networking for small businesses.
Social Networking Websites such as Facebook and Twitter have grown incredibly fast in recent years and become part of everyday conversations. More and more businesses are exploiting social media to interact with their customers.
The seminar is being held at Caerberis Manor, Builth Wells, 1.30pm-4pm, on Wednesday 22 September, with tea/coffee and Welsh cakes on arrival.

Promoting Pembrokeshire - 8 November
A marketing and branding event, supported by Pembrokeshire Tourism, Pembrokeshire County Council and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority. The venue will be Slebech Park and the cost £7.50. The event will include “presentations from inspirational speakers, lunch in stunning surroundings and a variety of afternoon workshops”!
The Outdoors Show 2011
Now in its tenth year The Outdoors Show is already Europe’s largest outdoors consumer show attracting over 30,000 visitors. In 2011 The Outdoors Show is relocating to London and will be held between 13 & 16 January at ExCel; it will run alongside the newly formed London Bike Show and The London International Boat Show. Combined, visitor numbers are expected to top 100,000, creating the UK’s first sports and leisure ‘super show’.
